SOPHMORE YEAR

i wrote this for yearbook... and i am in love with it.

Sophomore year. It's the in between year where you're still a baby but you're growing up. You don't get to be mad at the freshman, because you were one just a few short months ago, but you say how much you dislike them anyways.  You stand around the busy outside locker areas where you have to wait your turn to open the steel lock boxes, over crowded with school materials for you, and your locker partner. Sitting on the ground around the 400 hall at lunch and being invited to all the sweet 16 parties. It's the year when you want freedom, but can't really have it yet. Where you take the dreaded practice SAT and ACT tests on Saturday morning showing up in your pajamas because you are simply too tired to get dressed to go to school on a Saturday. You have to take your drivers ed classes and watch as your friends receive their new Mercedes and convertibles and drive around blasting "Like a G6" in their cars. Freedom at last. It's going to the football games and screaming for your friends as they run down the field and being proud because they are playing up with the seniors and they are helping them achieve victory. It's the custom made shirts from t-shirt canary that read Tesoro Titans and those Friday night lights. It's the boy friend drama, the gossip, the laughs, watching as your friends fall in love fir the first time and as they get their hearts broken. It's the corky's runs after football games and when it's still fun to go TPing in the middle of the night. It's the year of major stereotyping. The football boys, the drama group, the religious activists, the people who like to party, the people who sit alone, the ones that are filled with teen angst, the other jocks, the cheerleaders, the preppy kids, the band kids, the school obsessed, the kids who honestly don't care, the trouble makers, the gamers, and the so called "normal" ones that no one has gotten to classifying... yet. it's the year when everyone is looking to be accepted some place at Tesoro- where they want to find out where they fit in at the school. It's about temptations and the mistakes and the regrets and the nights you will always remember. Coming to school and catching up on the latest stories in the middle of class while your teachers talk over you irritatingly. It's the all nighters and sleeping during math class. It's the in between year. But in the end- it all works out.
